Liviz is located upstream on the west shore of the Neva River, 3.8 km SE of the Neva River Split (6.0 km along the meandering river, as the fish swims). The manufactury is situated at 56/58 Sinopskaya Nab. (N59 56.15 E30 23.61). Liviz dates from 1897, at the site of an old distillery on Sinopskaya (then known as Kalashinovskaya). Mendeleev was responsible for the regulation and distillation techniques of the product. Other vodkas produced today by Liviz include the well-known Diplomat brand, as well as Ohta, Sinopskaya, Pratizvyozdnaya, Gzhelka, and Rossiyanka. The word "vodka" has been known from the 17th century, derived from the Russian word "voda" (water).
